Everyone arrived Friday night, dead tired, and collapsed. Saturday, the weather was a bit gray, so we went downtown to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Park. I've visited there before, and had fun showing it to Steve and Becky. I took a bunch more pictures, too.

Welcome to the last installment of my visit to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. This time, we visit the museum's small Babylonian collection. At one time, this museum was called the Rosicrucian Oriental Museum, back in the day when 'oriental' meant 'Middle Eastern' more than "East Asian', and a Babylonian/Sumerian section would have been perfectly normal to have in a museum otherwise full of Egyptian artifacts. Now, the Babylonian section has quite a few educational displays tying it into the Egyptian theme of the museum, mostly as an Egyptian trade partner. Egypt has imported Sumerian and Babylonian goods since before recorded history, and exported raw materials to the rest of the Middle East. It has also suffered the attacks of Assyria and Persia.

This museum has quite a few educational dioramas. One of the larger ones is a cutaway model of an upper-class Egyptian estate, probably this one from Tell al-Amarna.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is divided up into thematic areas: Daily Life, Kingship, Afterlife, etc. I've also divided up my pictures into topics, but not the same ones: Religion and Burial, Daily Life, Egyptian Estate, Babylon, and Boat Models and Dioramas.

My main interest in visiting the museum was in seeing items of everyday life in ancient Egypt; I was doing a bit of research. You'll find my photos reflect that; lots of images of kitchen equipment, no pictures of royal statues.
